Revisions

A dataset that improves changes its own history. Revisions driven by a source or methodology change are labeled distinctly from real-world movement, and history is back-revised so the series stays comparable.

What triggers a revision

A new register comes online, a board changes how it classifies a license, or we correct how a raw classification maps onto the credential ladder. Each of these changes a count for reasons that have nothing to do with the workforce moving, so we mark it as a revision, not movement.

How history is treated

When a method changes, we back-revise the series so past and present are measured the same way. A figure you cited last quarter stays reproducible, with a note on what changed and when.

Why we bother

This is the practice Case-Shiller and BLS follow. It is what makes a number a reference other people can build on, rather than a marketing statistic that quietly resets.
